Urban memories relived in Zhuhai

Zhuhai's Xiangzhou District opened a month-long photography exhibition at the Zhuhai Museum on June 2 displaying decades of changes in the city.

The show called "Xiangshan Memory" showcased more than 100 quality and precious photos recording historic, cultural, and economic changes which cover every aspect of daily life.

Xiangshan County which existed until 1925 was the predecessor of Zhongshan and Zhuhai cities in Guangdong Province and also includes Macao and part of Guangzhou's Nansha District.

Xiangzhou District holds a photography exhibition on June 2 showcasing the changes Zhuhai has experienced over time.

Displays were selected from 400 entries, mainly contributed by local journalists and amateur photographers.

Li Zhijun, a photographer in his 80s submitted 10 photos hoping that the public can together trace the valuable collective memories.

"With no cars at that time, I often cycled around and climbed hills to take photos," Li said. "Thankfully these frames became the witness of Zhuhai's rapid development."

More than 100 quality and precious photos are showcased in a display cabinet.

Visitors of all ages were attracted to learn more about the past and present of the place where they live.

Many of them were amazed at the vivid and authentic visual experience provided by AR (augmented reality) technology. Visitors were able to download an app which allowed them to scan the images to create a 3D picture.

Zhuhai native Ms He, of the post-90s generation, said the old pictures gave her a unique time-travel experience. "I will cherish the present and hope my homeland can become better and better."

Some of the photos will later be published in an album of Xiangzhou District.
