Deals clinched at Canton Fair

Zhuhai exhibitioners pocketed 6.06 billion yuan ($876 million) in orders at the Canton Fair held from April 15 to May 5, up 6.2 percent on the previous event, according to the city's commerce bureau.
A total of 176 Zhuhai enterprises, such as Zhuhai Gree Appliances and Jinpin Electrical, showcased their latest products and technologies at the fair held in Guangzhou.
Mechanical and electrical products accounted for 86 percent of Zhuhai's sales, bringing in 5.18 billion yuan ($750 million).
Furniture, home supplies and ceramics also proved popular, with the majority of orders coming from the Asian market which placed 1.81 billion yuan ($263 million) in orders, 30 percent of the total. Orders from Europe, America, and Africa also increased, as well as those from Hong Kong, occupying 8 percent of the total sales.
Following the success of the Canton Fair, Q1 figures for Zhuhai showed the city's exports hit 60.2 billion yuan ($8.72 billion), up 22.4 percent on the same period last year.

"The economic recovery of the European and American market along with the decline of exchange rate of RMB against the USD is to some extent helpful to our foreign trade,” said an official of Zhuhai Municipal Bureau of Commerce, “our city has kept good momentum since last year.”
The department also revealed that the government will continue issuing measures to promote innovation in enterprise in the hope of entering a new stage of foreign trade development.
The biannual Canton Fair was sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of PRC and the Guangdong government, and attracted more than 24,000 enterprises from home and abroad.
