A System on Chip (SoC) project launched by Apex Microelectronics has been awarded China's top science technology award by the Chinese Institute of Electronics on April 27.

The award ceremony was held at the 12th China Electronic Information Technology Conference, in Shijiazhuang, capital of Hebei Province. Established in 2006, the conference is the most influential event in the domestic information technology industry.

Apex, Hangzhou C-SKY Microsystems, and Zhejiang University took five years to develop SoC chips for printers, which are based on Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) technology applied for Central Processing Unit (CPU).

According to a project leader, they have mastered the core technology to mass produce a variety of SoC chips. Their patented products ensure safe and more efficient data processing and transfer, in advance of many foreign competitors.

Last year, Apex Microelectronics sold more than 100 million SoC chips, 80 percent of which went to the foreign market and widely applied to HP, Epson and Samsung printers.

Xiangzhou-based Apex Microelectronics is an inkjet/laserjet cartridge chips manufacturer and systematic solutions provider for imaging supplies. As of 2016, the company has obtained more than 290 patents globally.
