Zhuhai Gree Electric Appliances invited notable industry experts, media and entrepreneurs to witness its robots pitted against famous overseas rivals at a launch ceremony held in Beijing on March 4.
The GR6225, an industrial robot developed by Gree competed in a carrot cutting challenge against robots of same kind from abroad at the China National Convention Center. The Gree robot matched the others in speed, precision, and stability, producing consistent thick and even slices.
Gree robots also put on a show by playing piano, carving statues and dancing with human performers, drawing praise from attendees.

The high-profile world debut of its latest robots is an achievement exhibition of Gree, one of the world's best household appliance suppliers. It entered the intelligent equipment industry in 2013, and in the same year, Gree-developed intelligent equipment achieved small-scale export sales. The company has overseas production revenues of more than 1 billion yuan ($14.5 million) at the end of 2016.
Gree has independently developed more than 20 patents across almost 100 types of automation products, such as intelligent automatic guided vehicles (AGV), and manipulators for injection molding machines. The products have been applied to fields including new energy, food, and energy saving.
"Gree will carry out further research into robots and precision machines to upgrade our own manufacturing system," said Dong Mingzhu, the company's chairman of the board.
She added that in future they will provide more self-developed high-end equipment against the backdrop of Made in China 2025, a national plan to upgrade the Chinese manufacturing industry.
The ceremony also included a forum themed on creation and core technology where participants made speeches about the importance of independent R&D capability.
