Zhuhai 4D Age Technology, a domestic pioneer in 3D modeling and printing recently raised 4 million yuan ($581,312) by transferring 10 percent of its shares in first round financing, resulting in a revaluation of the company at 400 million yuan ($58 million).

"The financing will be used for market expansion and new technology research," said Cui Yan, founder of 4D Age Technology.

Cui used to be a senior engineer at DFKI (the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence), one of the world's top artificial intelligence research institutes and the largest in Germany. He returned to Zhuhai in 2014 and channeled his experiences into creating a technology company in Xiangzhou District, mainly focused on 3D modeling and digital virtual displays. According to 4D Age, the level of accuracy that the company has achieved in its 3D scanning is only matched by that of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), in the United States.

One of the company's core areas of business is building intelligent museums using optical scanning techniques. 4D Age has so far created 20 intelligent museums which have opened in provinces such as Hebei and Guangdong. The online digital museums have already attracted tens of millions of daily clicks.

The company also provides a third party e-commerce app enabling businesses, such as estate agents and traders to list and sell their products.

This will be followed by the company's more ambitious project – establishing a 3D e-commerce platform. Users will be able to scan the items they wish to sell which can be modeled and published in three dimensions via the app.

Last year, DFKI signed an agreement with Zhuhai 4D Age Technology to build its first Asian base in Zhuhai, teaming up in artificial intelligence technology and project development.
