Details for a virus research project planned to launch in Xiangzhou in the near future were discussed on Jan 5.
The project leader is Liu Fenyong, a lifetime professor at the University of California and Jinan University, specializing in virology and biochemistry.
Liu has been recruited to the national Thousand Talent Plan, which is aimed at attracting successful homegrown scientists to lead key projects and research.
Having obtained five patents registered in the US, Liu hoped that what will be achieved from his project on anti-virus nucleic acid molecules can put into production, generating economic benefits as soon as possible.
"It will be my first commercialized research project on nucleic acid," said Liu. He believes Zhuhai's advantages in supporting developing industries and transportation will be a big help.
Yan Haobo, Secretary of CPC Xiangzhou District Committee welcomed Liu and his team. He promised that the district government will fully support the project and hoped it can, along with the cooperation with Jinan University, help to establish an industrial technological park as well as attract more talent.
