A thousand Xiangzhou citizens kicked off the New Year the right way on Jan 1 by taking part in a series of activities themed on love, culture and art at the seventh Xiangzhou Greenway Carnival.

The annual carnival, established in 2010, was sponsored by Xiangzhou Zhengfang Holding Co and was organized by Zhengfang Public Resources Operations. The event, which aims to promote the development of the city's urban environment as well as its culture, was marked by opening of a love-themed post office, a retail area made from shipping containers, and a sports center.

Located on Lovers Avenue in the northern part of City Parlor (Haibin Beach), the "love" post office is the first of its kind in Zhuhai. The 1,260-sq-m two-story building is oval-shaped and faces a lighthouse on the coastline. An office for incoming and outgoing mail, a tunnel of love and a love capsule all add to the theme which promotes one of life's greatest achievements and treasures.

To mark the opening of the post office, 520 people led by 38 "cupids" paraded around the post office. Simultaneously, 10 couples exchanged their wedding vows in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

Zhuhai's first retail area constructed entirely out of shipping containers was also opened in Jida District. Eleven brightly colored containers, home to stores selling flower, tea, coffee, and clothes were opened, accompanied by live music and comedy performances.
