Creative ideas clash at Xiangzhou sci-tech competition

Of 80 selected projects, 22 were pushed to the final of the 2016 Xiangzhou Sci-tech Innovation Competition from Dec 21 to 23, and covering the fields of internet technology, medical treatment and big data.
Half of the 22 competitors are from the contest's startup category, and the other half are from the enterprise category.

A judge panel of 15 experts, investors and entrepreneurs gave comments on the projects from the perspectives of innovation, marketing and business circumstance.
Participants tried to make it through the contest in a six-minute roadshow and a nine-minute Q&A session.
A project aimed at skin regeneration was considered competitive at the contest. A new surgical dressing with stem cell growth factors was designed for skin trauma and burn wounds through staunching and pain relief. Its good flexibility and excellent suction on surfaces allows wounded skin relief from symptoms within 24 hours and full regeneration free of scars within 17 days.

A particular highlight came from a project for improved feed from the startup category which received critically professional comments.
The project put forward the idea of using herb residues fermented by medical fungi and Effective Microorganisms (EM) to produce feed additives. Judges acknowledged its technological basis and suggested that they target pet lovers of higher income by developing healthy pet food.
The competition, co-sponsored by Xiangzhou District Municipal Party Committee and the Xiangzhou District government, opened in October in response to the Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation Week initiated nationwide.

About 5 million yuan ($741,928) in prize money is up for grabs, attracting 229 participants from across the globe, including 18 overseas projects from the United States and Spain in the fields of new energy, advanced equipment manufacturing and bio-technology.
Winners will be awarded with certificates and a package of support in terms of finance, subsidies and allowances.
The final competition will take place on Jan 6, 2017.
