Various sub-genres of traditional Chinese opera competed in an opera contest in Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai, on Oct 28 at the Xiangzhou Culture Square.

Some 18 teams were selected to compete in the final of the opera contest held to promote traditional Chinese opera. 

Cantonese opera, Peking opera, Huangmei opera and Ping opera were all performed at the contest. Li Huihong and Tang Yan took the first prize for their original opera song Qing Feng Xu Run.

The event is expected to facilitate exchanges among different types of operas and put renewed emphasis on their development. It serves as part of the winter program for cultural activities taking place in Xiangzhou over the four seasons to ignite local passions for art and culture.

Also, the local government strives to benefit local people by raising the quality of cultural activities and creating an atmosphere to promote creativity in the district.
