Notes of harmony fill the air in Xiangzhou District

Sweet musical notes filled the air in Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai on Oct 16, as 27 gifted singers took part in the final of a singing competition.
A variety of different musical styles, from pop and folk to Italian bel canto, rang out across the Xianghzou Cultural Plaza, where an audience of 500 were entertained by the range of talent on show.

Li Yao, from Nanping Village was crowned top crooner, along with Xiangwan Street's Zhang Jiaqi, who voted the most popular in the final. The competition also produced three silvers and five bronzes.

A particular highlight came when an elderly singer sang a piece from the famous Chinese opera, Sister Jiang, based on the story of Sichuan revolutionary martyr.

The competition is just one of a series of events aimed at igniting local people's passion for performance, art, and culture.
Other invents have included competitions in chorus, calligraphy, and painting.
