The city of Zhuhai and German company Siemens are taking yet another step toward organizing “the cleanest, greenest traffic in all of China” and establishing within the decade one of the world’s best cities with regards to green mobility. Now the Zhuhai Transportation Bureau says it and Siemens will build a “Smart Operation Management Platform” depicting decision-making processes for the city’s transportation infrastructure.

The overall plan is to implement an advanced Traffic Management System that will integrate transport information for all travel options, from rental bikes to trams, ferries, and public buses. It will assist both government authorities and everyday commuters, according to Siemens. Meanwhile, the new platform will optimize data processing and integration using such advanced technologies as big data and cloud computing related to buses, taxies, and vehicular parking. It will offer smart parking guidance, internet payments, video connection, traffic circulation simulations, and environmental assessment. In addition, it will support the network security of command centers for traffic emergencies.  

The first-stage project of the Zhuhai Comprehensive Traffic Management Platform set up by Siemens was approved after testing last year. As China’s first management platform integrating green transportation concepts with traffic control, the Siemens applied the Green Traffic Index System which is customized for Zhuhai. 

According to the transportation bureau, the city will greatly benefit from having such a system that expedites local traffic control. Furthermore, Siemens states on its website that with “smart data analytics managing traffic in real time and a comprehensive service platform, everyone can enjoy smooth traffic and smart travel in Zhuhai.”
