Boardwalks, stone benches, and greenways as well as recreational areas are being constructed to make Xianglu Bay Beach a better leisure choice.
These new features are expected to be completed in late October.
The beach’s 90-m-wide sands stretch for 1.5 km along Xianglu Bay which encompasses the city’s landmark the Fisher Maiden statue and the Lovers Avenue.
The beach, which had been attracting flocks of visitors since January, is now undergoing construction of a 15-m-wide greenbelt along the avenue covering about 30,000 sq m, according to the project manager. Wooden boardwalks, 3 m in width, are being built, and cyclists will soon be able to enjoy the 3.6-m-wide bike path, more than three times wider than the previous one. There is also a small square equipped with recreational facilities with water features for children.

The designers of the project hope to make a world-class seashore space that integrates art and culture. It is also a demonstration of low-carbon urban construction, in alignment with agreements made between China and European Union (EU).
