The 2016 Tour of China International Road Cycling Race (Zhuhai Area) saw Marco Benfatto from the Italian team Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec take top honors on Sept 25, retaining the yellow and blue jerseys with the highest total score and best sprint record.

Professional cyclists
Ranked after Marco Benfatto were Ricardo Stacchiotti and Marini Nicholas, both from the Italian team Nippo-Vini Fantini. New Zealander Luke Mudgway of Avanti IsoWhey Sports secured third place overall.
“Everything came down to the final stage, 82.9 km starting and finishing in Zhuhai. Partway through the stage, the field took on five laps of a rolling circuit before heading back to the start-finish line,” according to roadcycling.co.nz. Each lap is up to 8.1 km long. It is a level-road track with multi-bends and without climbing points. Sprints are at the second and the fourth laps.

Rivals in competition
Benfatto was the brightest star in this year’s Tour of China for having won several championships and claiming the blue and yellow jerseys. Right before the Zhuhai race, he expressed appreciation for the competition and showed determination to fight for the best result, saying the outcomes gained during the cycling might help him find a better job back home.

The organizing committee cited Guangdong’s Qingyuan and Zhuhai areas for having staged the most influential races of the 2016 Tour of China.
