Cycling, tennis, sailing, jazz events on horizon

Preparations for the 2016 Tour of China International Road Cycling Race (Zhuhai Area), WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai, National Sailing Championships, and the 7th Beishan Jazz Festival are well under way, according to proceedings at an organizing committee work conference on Sept 7.

2016 Tour of China International Road Cycling Race

The 2016 Tour of China International Road Cycling Race (Zhuhai Area) is a high-level international competition representing a national brand. It has come to Zhuhai for the second year and will be held in Hengqin New Area on Sept 25. Some 220 riders of 22 professional teams certified by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) from 17 countries and regions will participate. Including working staff for competition operations and broadcasting, the total number of people involved will be about 900, a spokesperson announced. 

The race will be covered by international, national, provincial, and municipal New Media, and will be broadcast live by CCTV-5. Publicity such as posters and reports will be prepared two weeks in advance, and the race will be combined with the 2016 “Picturesque Hengqin, Beautiful Life” Cycling Tour to better promote Hengqin and enhance the brand influence. 

2016 WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai

The 2016 WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai will be held at the Hengqin International Tennis Center from Nov 1 to 6. One of three female tennis competitions in China, the competition offers a total bonus of $2.21 million. 

It includes 22 matches -- 15 singles and seven doubles. There will be a player reception on Oct 31 and a brief opening ceremony before the first singles match on Nov 1. Separate award ceremonies for singles and doubles will be held after final matches on Nov 6, according to WTA Chief Inspector Peter Johnson. 

National Sailing Championships 2016

The National Sailing Championships 2016 will gather more than 300 professional athletes from 16 provincial and municipal teams to rival in the neighboring areas of Xianglu Bay on Central Lovers Avenue in Jida from Oct 18 to 23. 

Established in 2011, the annual championships are one of the highest and most influential state-level sporting events. First settled in Zhuhai, the six-day competition will have five Olympic-level races, including the Men’s 470 Class, Women’s 470 Class, Men’s Laser Class, Women’s Laser Radial, and Men’s Finn Class. 

The 7th Beishan Jazz Festival

The 7th Beishan Jazz Festival will be held from Sept 16 to 17, bringing together nearly 20 jazz musicians of eight bands from nine countries and regions. The theme of the festival is “Amour, Love & Jazz”.
