In the past, the three temples were religious sites but also used their donations to offer alms for the poor as well as medical help, and money for local schools. The "Shengtang" is called the "Ancestral Tang" or "Grand Tang" temple for Shakyamuni,  with 18 Arhats standing guard. The "Wenwu" is for the Wenchang Emperor and the “Jinhua” celebrates the goddess Jiahua. The temples are the site of dragon dances, lion dances and other activities each Feb 2 on the lunar calendar.
