Some 125 local craftsmen put their abilities on display at a vocational skills contest held at the Nanping Science and Technology Park in Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai on Aug 19.
Entitled “Craftsmen in Xiangzhou”, the event was co-organized by the organization department of the Xiangzhou district government Party committee, the district’s Human Resources and Social Security Bureau and the Federation of Trade Unions.
As a part of the district’s Talents Plan program, the activity was aimed at promoting craftsmanship and cultivating more skilled technicians.

During the contest, participants showed their talents in electrical maintenance and auto metal sheet repair, as well as competing in events showcasing software operation, fire drills, skills in repairing engines, and skills for the printing consumables industry.
In response to the economic transformation and industrial upgrading in Xiangzhou District, the local government established a vocational skill training base in 2013 covering an area of 4,000 square meters.
The base is used to hold training sessions to help the unemployed, as well as those currently working who want to improve their skills, and create more career opportunities.
Xiangjiang District is expected to host a further five vocational skills events this year in areas such as nursery teaching, bartending and nutrition.
