As a national food safety week activity and to improve the district’s awareness of food quality, Zhuhai’s Xiangzhou District is adopting various measures in restaurants, schools and communities.
In one measure the district is putting up posters in a striking or eye-catching place in more than 5,000 of its restaurants to showcase food quality indexes and help people evaluate the food quality. The posters show a restaurant’s license, quantitative classification and staff health certificates, all of which are marked with smiling faces in different colors, making it easy for customers to judge the restaurant.
Three levels of food quality are represented by the color of the smiling face – green for excellent, blue for good and red for just so-so.
In a second measure, the district is cooperating with its education bureau to carry out a “food quality at campus” campaign. It consists of the following: giving at least one public lecture for each class and handing out 150,000 brochures to children and their parents in all kindergartens of the district; setting up more than 700 bulletins in 126 communities, 56 open fair and more than 200 schools and kindergartens to broaden publicity; releasing alarm information for high-risk foods and informing the public through the city’s main newspapers and televisions; and putting up 400-plus shelves with more than 10 kinds of brochures for people to read in the stores on designated food quality demonstration streets.
