Nine Chinese locations have been included on the Biodiversity Charming City list at the 8th Summit for Subnational Governments and Cities, a parallel event to the UN Biodiversity Conference, which is taking place in Cali, Colombia.
Tianjin's Ninghe district, as well as Beijing, Ordos, Anji county, Shiyan, Ningbo's Beilun district, Shaoxing, Xiamen and Lishui, were recognized on the list.
These locations have also been selected to join the "Cities with Nature" platform, which is convened by Local Governments for Sustainability, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the Nature Conservancy with support from the United Nations Environment Program and the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity.
Delegations from more than 200 cities, provinces and states from more than 100 countries around the world participated in the Summit for Subnational Governments and Cities.
The summit aims to showcase and recognize cities and regions that have achieved outstanding results in the field of biodiversity conservation, collectively advancing the implementation of global biodiversity governance goals.
The biodiversity conservation actions and achievements of the selected locations will effectively drive the implementation of relevant goals of the "Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework" at the subnational level.
