"The Dangote Oil Refinery Project in Nigeria employed over 5,000 individuals on-site, including nearly 4,000 local workers," according to a representative from China National Chemical Engineering Co (CNCEC).
The Dangote Oil Refinery, currently under construction in the Lekki Free Zone near Lagos, is designed to meet Nigeria’s entire demand for refined petroleum products while also producing a surplus for export.
The CNCEC, as the contractor, has prioritized local hiring and offered a range of professional skills training courses to the employees, including masonry and welding. Nearly 500 local workers benefited from these specialized training programs.
Upon completion, it will be the largest oil refinery in Africa. The refinery's pipeline infrastructure, spanning 1,100 kilometers, is capable of transporting 3 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day.
Accordingly, the project will eliminate Nigeria's dependence on importing petrochemical products, which previously accounted for 40 percent of the country's foreign exchange expenditure.
