Sitting on the southeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Huangnan Tibetan autonomous prefecture in Qinghai province is being revitalized thanks, in part, to impactful assistance from Tianjin, a coastal city in North China.

In September 2016, the poverty alleviation resettlement project in Deji village, Jianzha county, Huangnan Tibetan autonomous prefecture offered a new start in life to 946 residents from 251 households. Thanks to an investment of 67.3 million yuan ($9.43 million), which includes 15.85 million yuan from Tianjin, the village has seen significant growth.

Deji village has since developed a cultural tourism sector that draws on local traditions of archery and farming, and the scenery of the nearby Yellow River. The village has also experimented with specialized agriculture, establishing cooperatives for seedling and Tibetan tea cultivation. In addition, the village has ventured into the photovoltaic industry, which has resulted in new job opportunities for residents.

Deji village is now a vibrant plateau community, recognized as an "AAA-level scenic spot" where ecology and industry coexist harmoniously.

The People's Hospital of Huangnan Prefecture, a Grade B tertiary hospital, has made significant advances in provision of medical services. Since 2016, the Tianjin and Qinghai health commissions have dispatched five groups of 60 medical professionals to the hospital to offer vital support.

Tianjin Binhai New Area has invested in the construction of the hospital's medical and technical complex, as well as a general practitioner training base. These developments have bolstered the hospital's infrastructure and improved the medical service capabilities of grassroots institutions.

The hospital has also established critical care centers for newborns and pregnant women, as well as specialized centers for chest pain, stroke and trauma. Its orthopedics and gynecology departments have been recognized as key national and provincial specialties.

Education: shaping the future

With support from Tianjin, Huangnan Prefecture Secondary Vocational and Technical School has become one of the top vocational institutions in Qinghai province. Tianjin allocated 100 million yuan to bolster education, enabling the school to forge partnerships with various colleges and universities in the city. This collaboration has resulted in the introduction of specialized training programs and provided opportunities for teachers to receive advanced training in Tianjin, significantly raising the standard of vocational education in Huangnan.

Tianjin's ongoing support in healthcare, education and rural revitalization has provided a strong foundation for Huangnan prefecture’s development, driving forward a new era of progress and prosperity.
