Tianjin Port reported a cargo throughput of nearly 40 million tons in January, with container throughput surging 7.2 percent to 1.73 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), the port's operator said on Monday.

The port has been making increased efforts to improve its operation efficiency. It increased the throughput of ships by 11.2 percent during this year's week-long Spring Festival holiday, which began on Jan 21.

As a pivotal shipping point for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the port's container throughput exceeded 21 million TEUs in 2022 and is expected to reach 21.8 million TEUs in 2023.
