Print PrintOn Nov 1, three intelligent buses developed by the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Unmanned Vehicles of Tianjin University started open road testing on intelligent connected roads in Tianjin Haihe Education Park.
The buses were officially licensed on Oct 31, making Tianjin University the first to obtain both licenses for open-road testing and licenses for vehicles to have road tests among Chinese universities which conduct research in the field of intelligent connected vehicles.
The acquisition of the test licenses marks a new breakthrough in Tianjin University's research and development of technology for intelligent connected vehicles.
Tianjin University's intelligent connected buses are equipped with 10 core independently developed technologies, including intelligent sensing, intelligent decision-making, efficient passage, human-machine interaction and vehicle-road collaboration.
The Interdisciplinary Research Center for Unmanned Vehicles of Tianjin University has been working with the Management Committee of Haihe Education Park to carry out research on intelligent connected buses since 2019.
Professor Xie Hui, Director of the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Unmanned Vehicles of Tianjin University, said: “Since November 1, three intelligent connected buses officially start road tests on a regular basis. This shows a new research development for intelligent connected vehicles at Tianjin University, and is an important step in bringing Tianjin University's popular science education center for intelligent connected vehicles to a wider public.”
The test road is about 27 kilometers long, with 10 stops and 20 intersections. It takes about 40 minutes to complete the journey.
