Despite the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, a company in Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City has launched an online appeal responding to ‘Earth Hour’ - a global activity initiated by the World Wildlife Fund which calls for coordinated efforts to protect the Earth.

Linking this year’s global theme of "Voice for the Planet" with the need to avoid large gatherings, the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Investment and Development Company (SSTEC) launched a special online campaign, titled “Voice for the Planet and Take Action - SSTEC’s Earth Hour 2020”, calling on people to speak up for the Earth, protect biodiversity and take urgent action to protect and restore nature.

Launched on SSTEC’s official WeChat account via an inspirational ‘H5’ mobile site from March 27 to 28, people were introduced to the background of the Earth Hour initiative and this year’s event, and guided through SSTEC’s efforts to support Earth Hour over the years. This was aimed at stimulating people's awareness of protecting the natural environment and guiding people to make contributions to the protection of the Earth through practical actions in their daily lives.

The highlight of the event was inviting participants to leave online messages to pledge how they can protect the Earth and nature. These messages were displayed in real time on the H5 page to influence more people to "speak for the planet" and thus encouraging more actions to protect Mother Nature.

The campaign was well supported by people and it received many messages. They all expressed their love for the Earth and their positive attitude towards nature, and they pledged to take practical actions to protect our common home - the Earth.

This is the ninth year that SSTEC has joined the global Earth Hour movement, signaling its commitment to protecting the natural environment. As the master developer of the Eco-City and a firm believer in sustainable development, SSTEC also switched off non-essential lights and electrical appliances in its Eco-Business Park to show support for the Earth Hour movement itself and to the wider cause of making continuous efforts to protect the Earth

SSTEC is the master developer of the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City, a landmark inter-governmental project between Singapore and China to jointly build an example green and sustainable city. It is a 50/50 joint venture between the Singapore Consortium led by the Keppel Group and the Chinese Consortium led by Tianjin TEDA Investment Holding Co., Ltd.
