Customs authorities in north China's Tianjin Municipality said they seized 328 ivory and ivory products in 2019 amid tightened crackdown on endangered species trafficking.
The customs officers investigated 55 cases related to the smuggling of ivory and ivory items, confiscating 39.92 kg of goods last year.
In the latest case, customs officers intercepted a suspicious package delivered from Japan which contained an ivory product weighing around 532 grams.
China adopts a zero-tolerance policy on the smuggling of endangered species or their products. The government suspended imports of ivory and all ivory products in 2015 and ended commercial processing and sales of ivory at the end of 2017 as part of its commitment to protecting wild animals.
