Intelligent and Converged Networks, an English academic journal co-sponsored by Tsinghua University and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), published its inaugural issue in July 2020.
The journal was launched based on the cooperation framework agreement between Tsinghua University and ITU signed on Jan 21, 2019 by Tsinghua University President Qiu Yong and ITU Secretary-General Zhao Houlin. Tsinghua University Press, a subsidiary of Tsinghua Holdings, and ITU subsequently agreed to create an English science and technology journal.
Tsinghua University Press Chairman Li Yong (R) and ITU Secretary-General Zhao Houlin (L) signed a cooperation framework agreement in January 2019.
Intelligence and Convergence Networks is the first academic journal jointly sponsored by Tsinghua University and a UN directly affiliated organization. The editor-in-chief of the journal is Professor Song Jian from the Department of Electronic Engineering, Tsinghua University, and its editorial board members include 20 famous scientists in the field of international communications.
"The journal Intelligent and Converged Networks is one of the fruitful results of the cooperation between Tsinghua and ITU. It has strengthened academic collaboration between faculties at Tsinghua University and ITU,” said Qiu Yong. “I am happy to see the inaugural issue of the journal which has integrated the cooperation concept of Tsinghua University and ITU and presents tremendous efforts between the two sides.”
ITU Secretary-General Zhao Houlin said in the foreword to the journal that the creation of the new publication reflects the parties’ rapidly growing partnership. Tsinghua University and ITU are working together to expand their cooperation and to serve global ICT innovators.
In the editor’s message, Song Jian said the journal covers the integration of fields such as channels and broadcasting, satellite and ground systems, communication and computing, and physical information systems. He added that the journal will also introduce the latest information technologies of artificial intelligence, blockchains, and mobile edge computing to bring integration into a new dimension.
