Fan Xin graduated from Tsinghua University in 1983 and received a master's degree from the university's Department of Thermal Engineering in 1988. He now serves as the vice president of Tsinghua Holdings Co Ltd. 

He has chaired the R&D of air-source heat pump technology and its products, which were widely used at Yangtze River and Yellow River since 1994 and aroused extensive attention from the public. In 2002, the air-source heat pump technology was promoted to North China. 

During the term when he held the position as general-manager of Tsinghua Tongfang Artificial Environment Co Ltd (Tongfang Artificial Environment), the company has put up products such as water-source heat pump and ground-source heat pump. In 2008, it has developed a super-large absorption heat pump equipment by using the industrial exhaust heat, which pulled ahead Chinese heat pump development for twenty years. 

In 2009, Tongfang Artificial Environment started cooperation with governments and large energy-consumption enterprises to promote the Energy Management Contract under his leading, which, as a result, effectively push Chinese strategy of energy conservation and emission reduction. 

Fan won two third prizes of Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award and one second prize of the award for his R&D results. Several of his R&D achievements were included in the national promoted list. He obtained nearly 100 patents and participated the national standards making. 

Fan was granted the honor of outstanding entrepreneur by China Machinery Industry Federation, and the Science and Technology Contribution Award by Chinese Association of Refrigeration. 

Moreover, he has organized and promoted the "Discipline Scholarship of Artificial Environment Engineering", which has already lasted for over twenty years and contributed a lot in cultivating professionals and pushing technology innovation. 

Fan started to serve as the president of Tsinghua Tongfang Co Ltd since May 2013, and he has taken up the post of vice president of Tsinghua Holdings Co Ltd since May 2016.
