Xiamen dominates online retail sales during '618 Shopping Festival'

Xiamen, a coastal city in East China's Fujian province, has emerged as the frontrunner in online retail sales during the "618 Shopping Festival", held from June 1 to 20.

With a remarkable year-on-year increase of 13.3 percent, Xiamen's online retail sales soared to an impressive 20.8 billion yuan ($2.89 billion). Physical goods accounted for the majority, totaling 19.34 billion yuan, marking growth of 13.4 percent year-on-year.

Notably, Xiamen's online retail sales accounted for 35 percent of the total sales in Fujian province, securing its place at the top of the list.

This year's shopping festival witnessed a surge of enterprises and stores eager to showcase their wares, resulting in an impressive tally of 394 enterprises and 517 stores surpassing the 1 million yuan mark in online retail sales.

In terms of product categories, Xiamen's traditional specialties such as clothing, shoes, hats, textiles, daily necessities, and grain and oil products dominated the sales charts, claiming the top three spots.

Furthermore, the promotion saw a substantial influx of agricultural products from Xiamen reaching households across the nation.

Xiamen's online retail sales of agricultural products reached 1.04 billion yuan, accounting for 25 percent of online retail sales in the province. Among consumers, tea, health food, and snacks from Xiamen emerged as the most sought-after items.
