During the Spring Festival holiday, which took place from Jan 21 to 27 this year, Xiamen enjoyed a booming consumer market, with non-staple food in sufficient supply and promotional activities being held everywhere.

During the holiday, the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce worked hard to ensure the supply of products and maintain price stability. It helped transfer non-staple food from surrounding cities and gave instructions to enterprises on how to keep enough goods for sale.

Furthermore, a shopping festival, which offered customers big discounts and vouchers, was held in Xiamen both online and offline, and helped boost the consumer market.

Consequently, as the whole city was immersed in a festive atmosphere, the sales volume of 17 giant shopping centers totaled 105.18 million yuan ($15.51 million), up 11.3 percent year-on-year.

What's more, the catering industry also benefited during the period, with the sales volume of the whole industry reaching 943 million yuan, up 21.95 percent year-on-year.

At the same time, supermarkets were hot spots for consumers, and nine of the biggest supermarkets in Xiamen recorded a sales volume of 132.54 million yuan, a slight increase of 0.62 percent year-on-year.
