Xiamen's foreign trade volume hits record high in 2022

In 2022, Xiamen's foreign trade volume hit a record high, with the total trade volume reaching 922.56 billion yuan ($136.45 billion), up 4 percent year-on-year. The total import volume reached 456.82 billion yuan, up 0.1 percent year-on-year, and the total export volume hit 465.74 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.2 percent.

During the same period, foreign trade in Xiamen's private sector amounted to 371.43 billion yuan, an increase of 13.9 percent year-on-year, and accounted for 40.3 percent of the city's total foreign trade value, while foreign trade with State-owned and foreign-invested enterprises accounted for 35.3 percent and 24.4 percent of the total year-on-year, respectively.

At the same time, Xiamen exported 206.35 billion yuan of electromechanical products, an increase of 7.8 percent, accounting for 44.3 percent of the total export volume, and 131.7 billion yuan of seven main categories of labor-intensive products were exported, up 5 percent year-on-year.

Xiamen's imports mainly consisted of iron ore, electromechanical products and agricultural products, which amounted to 91.99 billion yuan, 85.09 billion yuan and 83.48 yuan, respectively.

Xiamen's trade with Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the United Stated and European Union (EU) amounted to 182.69 billion yuan, 124.54 billion yuan and 110.58 billion yuan, respectively, a year-on-year increase of 12.3 percent, 9.9 percent and 12.5 percent.

Furthermore, its trade with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative surged to 330.79 billion yuan, up 12 percent year-on-year.
