Xiamen Port to achieve 12.4 million TEUs container throughput in 2022

Xiamen Port in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province will strive to achieve a 3 percent increase in its annual container throughput this year to reach 12.4 million twenty-foot equivalent units, Wu Shunbin, director of the Xiamen Port Authority, said at a conference held on Jan 14.

In 2022, Xiamen Port will enhance its position as a mainline container port, speed up solving problems that restrict the port's development, and strengthen epidemic control and prevention to boost the world-class port's business environment, Wu said.

In addition, the Xiamen Port Holding Group Co will increase investments and accelerate the construction of an intelligent green port to improve the port's services and efficiency, manager from the company said.

Statistics show that the container throughput at Xiamen Port reached 12.05 million TEUs in 2021, up 5.62 percent year-on-year. Its growth rate was 4.1 percentage points higher than the province's annual average.

Xiamen Port's cargo throughput and water transportation turnover rate also increased by about 10 percentage points to 228 million tons and 257.28 billion tons in 2021, respectively.

Xiamen Port boasts one of the best business environments among shipping container ports in China for three consecutive years, which is contributed to its rapid development.
