Xiamen's foreign trade exceeds 800b yuan in Jan-Nov period

Xiamen in East China's Fujian province reported that its foreign trade increased 29.3 percent to 814.21 billion yuan ($127.96 billion) from January to November this year.

According to the city's customs department, Xiamen's imports and exports reached 423.14 billion yuan and 391.07 billion yuan respectively, up 38.1 percent and 20.9 percent year-on-year during the period.

The value in November alone hit 81.78 billion yuan, up 33.2 percent year-on-year.

Statistics showed that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the United States, and the European Union were Xiamen's top three trade partners during the period. Their trade volumes with Xiamen grew by 25.3 percent, 27.7 percent, and 28.6 percent to 148.44 billion yuan, 103.79 billion yuan and 88.94 billion yuan, respectively.

In addition, Xiamen's trade with RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership) members, countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiatives, as well as BRICS countries, increased by 23.5 percent, 28.9 percent, and 20.2 percent, respectively.

The city's vital private sector grew rapidly during the period, with the sector's foreign trade reaching 296.34 billion yuan, up 40.6 percent year-on-year.

Statistics also showed that the city's imports of mechanical and electrical products as well as agricultural produce increased over 30 percent year-on-year. The amount of imported coal surged 71.3 percent year-on-year.

Mechanical and electrical products, as well as labor-intensive products such as textiles and garments, were the major exports, growing 15.5 percent and 6.7 percent year-on-year to 174.24 billion yuan and 113.56 billion yuan, respectively.
