The coastal city of Xiamen in East China's Fujian province has witnessed a boom in e-commerce and livestreaming, with more than 110,000 livestreaming activities and over 3.1 million online viewers in the first half of this year, according to statistics released by the Xiamen Bureau of Commerce.

To accelerate the quality development of the e-commerce sector and create fresh opportunities for local e-commerce enterprises, local authorities said that Xiamen will build an e-commerce and livestreaming center.

The center is expected to integrate multiple functions including online shopping and live commerce, and will better meet the needs of consumers and keep pace with upgraded sales patterns both online and offline, which will deepen business cooperation between e-commerce enterprises and promote mutual benefit and common development.

Additionally, an e-commerce industrial alliance for facilitating cross-Straits livestream e-commerce was also set up in Xiamen to accelerate the digitalization of traditional small and medium-sized enterprises across the Straits.

Local authorities said that a provincial industrial alliance for promoting the development of Fujian's new business models of livestreaming and e-commerce will be established in Xiamen in 2020.
