Xiamen to host World Seafood Congress in 2023

Xiamen in East China's Fujian province has been picked to be host city of the World Seafood Congress in 2023, according to organizers of this year's event held in Penang, Malaysia, from Sept 9 to 11.

Xiamen ITG Exhibition Group Ltd won the right to stage the 2023 event at the New International Convention and Exhibition Center in the city.

Meanwhile, You Weiwei, associate professor of Xiamen University's College of Ocean and Earth Sciences, was elected as a council member of the International Association of Fish Inspectors, sponsor of the World Seafood Congress.

Launched in 1969, the biennial congress is regarded as one of the highest-level events in the world for government officials, seafood industry experts and business representatives to share their insights on the industry and to release industrial standards.

The 2019 World Seafood Congress attracted about 500 attendees from 43 countries to discuss international trade, food safety and the security of supply of reliable seafood.
