"Remote control (RC) car racing is seeing promising prospects in China," said Liao Yifeng, a spokesman for the sponsor of the 2019 International RC Car (off-road) Grand Prix.

In recent years, the country has witnessed a boom in RC car contests and many excellent racers have emerged, noted Liao.

The 2019 International RC Car (off-road) Grand Prix was held in Xiamen, Fujian province from March 22 to 24, which attracted more than 200 racers from the United States, Germany, Singapore, Thailand, and Japan.

It is the third time that Ryan Lutz, champion of the 2018 edition from the US, has taken part in the competition.

Lutz was impressed by the complete facilities at the venue.

Hu Weiping, winner of 11th National RC Car Tournament, said that Chinese racers are slowly closing the gap with their foreign counterparts.

Sponsored by the Guankou Town People's Government of Xiamen and Xiamen 3-circles Battery Co, the competition has been held for four years and has become one of the largest scale RC car races in Asia.
