Xiamen rakes in $2.9m in tourism revenue during 'Oct Golden Week'

As the third most popular domestic city following Sanya and Beijing during this year’s National Day holiday (Oct. 1 to 7), Xiamen received 1.63 million tourists from home and abroad, and raked in 1.853 billion RMB ($292 million) in tourism revenue, a year-on-year increase of 5.85 percent and 5.56 percent respectively, according to statistics released by the Xiamen Tourism Bureau on October 7.

About 385,800 tourists visited Gulangyu Island, which was implementing, for the first time on a National Day holiday, the new tourist restriction policy that ensures a more pleasant environment for tourists.

The Xiamen University Siming campus received 106,500 tourists in the first six days of the holiday. A record 25,800 tourists visited the campus on October 2, breaking the previous daily visit record created during last year’s National Day holiday.

According to statistics, the average hotel occupancy rate reached 52.77 percent, up 0.95 percent year-on-year. Tourist visits peaked on October 3 and October 4.

Xiamen has always been at the forefront of China's major tourist cities, both in the tourism popularity index and tourist satisfaction index.
