Xiamen food imports on the rise

Imported food has increased substantially in Xiamen this year, thanks to the implementation of favorable import policies.

The value of imported food in Xiamen reached $375 million in January and February, 78.6 percent higher than that of last year and 90.4 percent higher than the increase rate of the entire import industry.

Food has risen above five other products and commodities to become the second most imported product in Xiamen, after Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD). The bulk of the imported food comprises of wheat, soybeans, barley and sorghum from America, Ukraine, and Australia.

The city gained approval from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, and Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China to be listed among the first batch of national designated food import ports on Oct 9, 2014.
