The report said the companies had been getting rid of hazardous wastes in a careless manner, moving it through unqualified second parties and faking treatment records, according to a provincial environmental protection official.

The 10 companies – Fujian Longji Machinery Equipment Production Co, Fujian Zhenglifa Resin Co, Liangang Metal Production Co, Fuzhou Autoparts Industry Co, Quanzhou Congqin Machinery Equipment Production Co, Sino-Japan Electric Heater’s Xiamen subsidiary, Fujian Nanping Lawter Chemical Co, Putian Medical Waste Disposal Engineering, Jiangpuling Waste Incineration Power Plant and Sanming Kingstar Resin Co -- will have to halt production and may even be shut down if they fail to meet standards by April 30.
