The China Environmental Resources Trial Information Platform, which was initiated by the Supreme People's Court (SPC) and built by the Jiangsu High People's Court, was officially launched on Jan 12. Zhou Qiang, president of the SPC, attended and addressed the event, and called for more efforts to accelerate the modernization of China's system and capacity in environmental resources trials.

Zhou noted that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, courts at all levels have striven to deepen reform and innovation in environmental justice, and have achieved significant progress in serving the all-round green transformation of socioeconomic development, protecting the people's environmental rights and interests and enhancing China's global influence in environmental judicature. The launch of the information platform is an important achievement of the people's courts' work in this area. It fully reflects the distinctive characteristics of trial work on environmental resources, and will effectively improve the quality and efficiency of environmental resource trials and better meet the judicial needs of the people, Zhou said.

He also stressed the need to develop and make good use of the platform, in order to accelerate the modernization of China's system and capacity in environmental resources trials and to ensure high-quality development of trial work in this field. The absolute leadership of the Party should be firmly upheld and more efforts are needed to give full play to the big data statistics, analysis, research and judgment functions of the platform in order to build it into an important carrier that serves the overall work of the Party and the country and protects people's environmental rights and interests, he said. The role of the platform in international exchanges and cooperation in environmental justice should be fully tapped, and a need-oriented approach should be adopted in application, optimization and intensified security management of the platform, he added.
