The achievements of Beijing’s cultural and creative industry from 2011 to 2015 were displayed at the 13th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industrial Fair (ICIF), which opened on May 11.

The Beijing pavilion, with a theme of “Cultural innovation, transformation and upgrading” includes displays for cultural inheritance, cultural and technological integration, and culture “go global”; together they involve creative products from 26 cultural enterprises.

Beijing Performance & Art Group and Beijing Distribution Group used technologies such as digital platforms and publishing to publicize Chinese traditional culture. VR and hologram technology, KTV and mini-microphone exhibitions also play a role in the ICIF.

In 2016, the Beijing cultural and creative industry realized a value added of 357 billion yuan ($51.8billion!), an increase of 12.3 percent year-on-year which accounts for 14.3 percent of the gross regional domestic product. Beijing is working to increase the value added of the cultural and creative industry until it reaches 15 percent of the GDP of the whole city.
