Since 1995, when she first came into cantact with giant pandas, Hou Rong has formed an indissoluble bond with these magnificent animals. With nearly 30 years of effort by Hou and her colleagues, the number of giant pandas in captivity at the base has increased from 18 in the very beginning to  today's 237. Hou is affectionately referred to as "Panda Mom". 

As a deputy to National People's Congress for four consecutive sessions, Hou submitted a bill titled Formulating the Law on the Management of the Giant Panda National Park  In 2021. She hoped to drive the high-quality development of the Giant Panda National Park with her professional suggestions.
