Themed "Intellectual Property Services Illuminating New Quality Productive Forces", the 2024 SIPSA Intellectual Property Services International Summit took place in Shanghai on Dec 5 as a sub-forum of the 21st Shanghai International Intellectual Property Forum.

The forum, hosted by the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration (SIPA) and organized by the Shanghai Intellectual Property Service Industry Association, attracted nearly 300 representatives from government, business, and academia.

Rui Wenbiao, director-general of the SIPA, highlighted IP as a cornerstone for innovation and economic growth. He emphasized Shanghai's ongoing commitment to enhancing IP services, digital empowerment, and ecosystem optimization to support the city's innovation hub ambitions.

SIPA Deputy Director-General Wei Lan introduced a new set of measures for promoting the high-quality development of Shanghai's intellectual property service industry, outlining 16 actions to improve the business environment, foster top-tier IP service institutions, and build a high-quality talent pool.

Leaders from IP associations in Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces signed the "Framework Agreement on High-Quality Development and Cooperation of Intellectual Property Service Industry in the Yangtze River Delta Region", aiming to boost regional IP service collaboration.

The event also marked the signing of the IPR protection insurance agreements for Shanghai's first batch of patent-intensive products, with seven entities participating.

Keynote speakers from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), including Chief Economist Carsten Fink and Senior Director of the Madrid Registry David Muls, discussed global IP ecosystem challenges, the Madrid System, and WIPO's dispute resolution mechanisms.
