Shanghai Intl IP Forum explores development of new quality productive forces

The 21st Shanghai International Intellectual Property Forum's main session convened on Dec 4, bringing together experts from international organizations, government agencies, universities, and enterprises to discuss the theme "Intellectual Property Empowers the Development of New Quality Productive Forces".

Rui Wenbiao, director-general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, highlighted the essential role of IP in fostering innovation and transforming creative achievements into new quality productive forces. He encouraged guests to share their insights to enhance IP's impact on the development of new quality productive forces.

Key speakers included Peng Wen, deputy director-general of the China National Intellectual Property Administration, Carsten Fink, chief economist of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Liu Changsheng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of Shanghai University, and Song Liuping, chief legal officer at Huawei Technologies Co Ltd.

They discussed topics such as patent utilization, global competitiveness of IP and technology clusters, new IP development models, and the interplay between globalization, innovation, and IP.

The roundtable discussions, moderated by Yu Chen, deputy director-general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, focused on WIPO's support for China's high-quality development and the relationship between IP protection, IP utilization, and the development of new quality productive forces. Experts talked amongst each other and proposed collaborative strategies for future development.

The forum provided a platform for sharing experiences and exploring new avenues for IP to drive productivity, reinforcing Shanghai's role as a hub for IP innovation and development.
