The Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration (SIPA) spared no effort to create a robust IP protection and service environment for participants of the seventh China International Import Expo (CIIE), which was held from Nov 5 to 10.

Emphasizing improved services and top-tier IP protection, SIPA implemented comprehensive measures such as "one-stop" professional services, "full-chain" protection, diversified dispute resolution, and a green channel for "exhibition certification".

SIPA deployed 145 personnel during the expo, including 75 at IP consultation points and 70 for inspections. They examined over 1,000 exhibits and promotional materials, handled 148 IP consultations, distributed over 300 informational materials, processed three trademark infringement complaints, and issued one "exhibition certification".

To provide "one-stop" professional services, SIPA collaborated with the CIIE Bureau to establish the CIIE IP Protection and Commercial Dispute Resolution Service Center. The center offered services covering patents, trademarks, copyrights, and geographical indications. A team of over 20 experts provided on-site professional services after focused training.

The service team addressed exhibitors' inquiries and promoted policies related to patent application, protection, and utilization. They conducted regular inspections and provided guidance to exhibitors, ensuring compliance and resolving IP issues promptly.

Following CIIE IP complaint regulations, SIPA's staff provided efficient dispute resolution services. For instance, a Mongolian trademark rights holder's complaint led to on-site mediation, resulting in the accused party removing the infringing product and covering the trademark.

To facilitate IP applications, SIPA established a green channel for "exhibition certification". This allowed inventions or trademarks first displayed at the expo to benefit from a six-month grace period for patent novelty or priority in trademark registration.
