On Oct 29, the Shanghai Intellectual Property Service Center hosted a seminar on the protection of foreign geographical indications (GIs) in China.

The event aimed to enhance protection by establishing a relevant long-term communication mechanism within the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

Key speakers included the head of the Intellectual Property Protection Division of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration and a representative from the European Chamber of Commerce in China. Representatives from the National Intellectual Property Administration introduced China's policies for protecting GIs.

An expert from the intellectual property agency SHBTA, part of the Shanghai Geographical Indication Alliance, shared practical insights on applying for collective and certification trademarks for foreign rights holders in China.

During the seminar, the Shanghai Intellectual Property Service Center introduced the "Manual for the Application of Protection for Foreign Geographical Indications in China".

Attendees also engaged in discussions, expressing their commitment to ongoing communication and cooperation.
