Shanghai hosts IP open class to foster youth innovation

On Oct 8, the "University Intellectual Property Open Class" was held at the Songjiang Campus of East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPL) in Shanghai. The event aimed to enhance awareness among students about key issues in IP protection and innovation.
In his speech at the event, Yu Chen, deputy director general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, highlighted IP as an essential system for protecting innovation. He emphasized Shanghai's efforts to become an international hub for IP protection, leveraging resources for talent development and education.
Vice-President of ECUPL Zhou Lizhi noted the role universities play in nurturing innovative talent and expressed excitement about using the "Open Class" to inspire students to become future IP guardians.
Robin Smith, vice-president at the LEGO Group, discussed the importance of trademark protection in driving innovation and encouraged students to respect knowledge and innovation.
The event featured engaging lectures and discussions, including a presentation by Professor Wang Taiping from ECUPL on IP concepts and trademark protection, sparking significant interest from students.
Representatives from the LEGO Group and Douyin E-commerce shared real-world cases of brand and IP protection, urging those in attendance to safeguard innovation. An interactive panel discussion included Robin Smith, Professor Wang Yanfang from ECUPL, and Tang Jie from Douyin E-commerce, exploring IP topics and engaging students in vibrant exchanges.
