Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration forges stronger ties with Malaysia
In an effort to strengthen international ties in intellectual property management, a delegation from the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, led by Deputy Director General Yang Hui, recently visited the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) at their invitation.
During the visit, Yang engaged in comprehensive discussions with Mohd Roslan bin Mahayudin, director general of MyIPO, and other key officials. The talks centered on enhancing the IP market, strategies for Chinese enterprises expanding overseas, policies related to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications, and financial support mechanisms for IP initiatives.
The delegation's itinerary included a visit to the Iskandar Regional Development Authority, where they examined local IP protection measures and discussed the implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) IP clauses within ASEAN. The team also visited the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) in Malaysia to study the arbitration processes for IP disputes.
Furthering their mission, the Shanghai delegation held a working meeting with the Malaysian Intellectual Property Association, aiming to foster greater consensus and opportunities for collaboration between the Malaysian and Shanghai IP sectors. They also met with the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), where discussions centered on the intricate relationship between IP and trade, as well as diverse approaches to dispute resolution.
In addition, the delegation conducted a study on the legal support provided by Malaysian law firms to Chinese enterprises operating abroad and reviewed the support infrastructure available at the Universiti Putra Malaysia Science Park for resident companies and research institutions.
