At the invitation of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Rui Wenbiao, director general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, led a delegation to visit the USPTO headquarters on Sept 12 local time.

During the visit, Rui met with USPTO Chief Executive Kathi Vidal and officials from the Office of Policy and External Affairs. The delegation also held discussions with the US Department of Justice and other intellectual property-related government departments. They received briefings on the US intellectual property protection system and enforcement practices, and exchanged views on enhancing intellectual property protection.

The delegation also held a working meeting with the US-China Business Council and its member companies to discuss the intellectual property business environment in Shanghai. They visited the USPTO's Silicon Valley office to study the region's advanced intellectual property practices and researched the provision of overseas intellectual property services by US law firms.

Additionally, the delegation visited US companies with investments in Shanghai, including Bristol Myers Squibb, Gilead Sciences, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and discussed intellectual property issues with company representatives.
