Shanghai highlights Olympic spirit with strict trademark protection
Shanghai, located in East China, hosted the Olympic Qualifier Series Shanghai 2024 from May 16 to 19. The event, which took place at the Huangpu Riverside, was not just a showcase of athletic excellence, but also a testament to Shanghai's stringent enforcement of Olympic trademarks.
A strategic campaign for trademark protection
The Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration spearheaded a strategic campaign, placing the protection of Olympic trademarks at the forefront of its annual agenda. The office rolled out a comprehensive action plan, mobilizing IP enforcement across the city to safeguard the symbols of the games.
Targeted enforcement and inspections
The Huangpu district intellectual property administration conducted targeted inspections in core venues, including competition areas and experience zones, as well as nearby businesses. The campaign resulted in 515 inspections, involving 2,668 personnel and covering 1,804 business entities. The focus extended to hotels, e-commerce platforms, and key shopping districts, ensuring that products like Olympic mascots and sports equipment adhered to trademark regulations.
Dedicated task force ensures fair play
A dedicated task force of 11 elite enforcement officers was established to ensure the smooth operation of the Olympic Qualifier Series. Their vigilant patrols and rapid response to any infringement incidents played a crucial role in upholding the integrity of the event.
Public awareness and prevention
The IP enforcement departments did not just rely on inspections; they also launched an online monitoring initiative. By focusing on e-commerce platforms and social media, they regulated the use of Olympic trademarks in advertising, thus fostering a culture of respect for IP rights.
