Shanghai IP chief holds talks with AstraZeneca legal head

Rui Wenbiao, director general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration or SIPA, held talks on March 6 with a delegation led by Jeff Pott, chief human resources officer, chief compliance officer and general counsel of pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca.

During the meeting, Rui briefed the guests on the administration's functions and the policies and measures for intellectual property or IP protection in the medical sector in East China's Shanghai.

He said Shanghai would continue to improve the IP protection system and create a favorable environment for the development of various enterprises, including foreign-funded ones, in the city.

He also invited AstraZeneca to put forward much-valued suggestions and provide feedback on Shanghai's IP work.

Pott expressed his appreciation for China's achievements in IP and thanked SIPA for its efforts in protecting IP rights in the medical field and supporting AstraZeneca's business growth in Shanghai.

He said AstraZeneca would continue to focus on Shanghai, deepen its presence in China and increase its investment in drug research and innovation.

The meeting was also attended by AstraZeneca's global IP leader, global deputy chief legal counsel and various leaders in Asia and China. Also involved as the deputy director general of SIPA and the heads of the bureau's office, IP protection department and international cooperation and exchange departments.
