Shanghai will host the 20th Shanghai International Intellectual Property Forum in December.

The event will be organized by the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Shanghai Municipal Government.

Established in 2003, the forum showcases China's IP achievements and is a key event for global IP exchanges. It has been held for 19 consecutive years and attended by IP experts and scholars from various countries and regions.

The Shanghai Municipal Government and WIPO signed a memorandum of understanding and a supplementary agreement in 2014 and 2018 respectively, with the aim of innovating the cooperation model of the forum and enhancing its international influence.

Themed "Strengthening Legal Protection for Intellectual Property, Fueling Innovation-driven Development of Digital Economy", this year's forum will explore ways to boost legal protection for IP, foster social innovation and development, support digital economy efficiency, improve IP commercialization capabilities for enterprises, cultivate innovation and creation abilities, and broaden international and global vision.

The forum will bring together leaders of relevant international and regional organizations, experts from foreign IP authorities and research institutes, as well as representatives from Chinese government departments, enterprises, universities, research institutions and service institutions.

The forum is expected to support Shanghai's efforts to become an international IP hub and a highland for international IP protection.
